Joseph Arthur Guthrie

I always admired Uncle Joe for his easy going, fun loving, and warm caring ways. It was always a treat when Jim and I were growing up to visit with Uncle Joe, Aunt Liz and our cousins either in Sharon or in Chicago. Aunt Liz and Uncle Joe always were a classy couple who showed their love for each other, and shared that love, hospitality and caring with family. Kathryn and Ralph always enjoyed time spent with Joe and Liz.

Uncle Joe was the greatest - I will always remember his sense of humor, warm hospitality and of course "the twinkle in his eye". Joe and (Aunt) Liz were always together traveling everywhere and visiting everyone. There are so many good memories I have of being with them - it was always a special time. Joe and (Aunt) Liz were always together traveling everywhere and visiting everyone. There are so many good memories I have of being with them - it was always a special time. As a kid growing up back home in the Shenango Valley my parents often took us to Chicago to visit the Joe & Liz, Gale, Sandy and Chip (now called Warren). This was a big trip for me and I fell in love with the city which lead to my interest and career in Architecture. Before I graduated from Penn State I went to Chicago and stayed with Aunt Liz and Uncle Joe so I could job hunt with firms inside The Loop. Joe was always interested in my studies and career. As everyone knows he was very interested in college football and we had a lot of talks about notre dame and PENN STATE.

Joe was a great "friend' to my parents and I know they always enjoyed his visits.
Joe will be missed by all, my family included.

Joe was always such a gentleman. He took care of Betty like she was the queen, when in the presence of others.Even though they were both aging and ailing he always put her first, just like the gentleman he was.His smile was infectious and just made you want to be his friend. You will be missed.

In 1984, my husband Bob and daughter Joanna traveled with me to the Mayo Clinic for a second scary medical opinion. Joe, a Sawhill colleague of Bob's, and Liz graciously welcomed us to stay overnight with them in Chicago Heights on our way to Minnesota. Our family has always been appreciative of their kindness.
Before my move from Hermitage to New Cumberland, Joe and Liz unexpectedly stopped by for a brief visit. Bob had already passed. It was obvious at that
