COLUMBIA - In the early morning of Friday, November 9, 2012, James Edward "Jim" Reid was gently taken to his new residence in Heaven. Daddy, we are so happy for you. Thank you, Lord, for your gift of salvation.
A service celebrating his life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, November 12, 2012, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. The Rev. Michael Ondera, Jim's son-in-law, will be conducting the service. The family will receive friends prior to the service starting at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park with full military honors.
Jim was born in Kansas City, Missouri on December 22, 1925, the oldest child of Ruby Davidson Reid and James H. Reid. Jim was a proud, disabled and decorated veteran, serving his country in the Marine Corps in World War II in the Pacific and in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and in the Vietnam War. After his retirement from the military, he graduated from Eastern Oklahoma State College with a degree in Applied Science. He moved to Columbia in 1977 and began a career with Anchor Continental, where he worked for more than 15 years.
Jim was a man of integrity and a hard worker. He was generous and had a heart for the poor. He loved his family and was thankful for every single thing done for him. A member of Shandon Baptist Church, Jim's personal relationship with Jesus Christ was evident in all aspects of his life.
He enjoyed residing at the Forest Pines Retirement Residence for the last two and a half years. Jim loved spending time with his close friend, Irene Dimmery, with whom he had a special bond.
He was predeceased by his wife, Pok Sun "Hope" Reid and his parents. Surviving are his daughters, Rosemary Wilk and her husband, Gene Wilk, of Augusta, Georgia, Susan Ondera and her husband, Michael Ondera, of Columbia, Mary Anne Antley and her husband, Steve Antley, of Columbia; sister, Mary Ellen Schnetzer of Independence, Missouri; grandchildren, Christina Williams, Geoffrey Wilk and his wife, Raya Carson, Tracie Ondera, Shanda Kesler and her husband, Todd Kesler, Elisabeth Graham and her husband, Bothwell Graham IV, Alesa Kim Barajas, Delia Hope Barajas, Audrey Rose Barajas and Cody Antley; great-grandchildren, Tristan Penn, Trent Williams, Ansleigh Wilk and Kymberlee Zigila; Uncle Joe Davidson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A special thanks to those at the VA Hospital for the excellent care given to Jim over the years and especially the compassionate care from the Hospice Unit.

Dear Sweet Sue, please know that our prayers are with you and your family at this time. It's never easy to loose someone you love, but oh how amazing to KNOW your Dad is in Glory with his Savior and God --- no more suffering. I really liked what your sister, Rosemary wrote. Daddy,
