Trudy Martin passed away January 4 in her home in Kansas City. Ralph, her loving husband of 74 years was by her side. She was born October 24, 1915 to Ethel and George Hilbert, Sr and enjoyed a close relationship with her four siblings and their families. At 18, she was invited to attend church at the 17th and Lawn Church of Christ and met Ralph. Their faithfulness to God was the foundation of their long marriage. Separated from Ralph by WWII, Trudy raised two children. When Ralph returned from the war, together they endured hardships through involvement with the church. Trudy taught Bible classes and created a program to encourage children to ride the "J.O.Y.Bus". She was a natural teacher, saw the good in everyone, and willingly shared her abundant love. Ralph and Trudy enjoyed traveling. Together they had three children, Virginia Chapman (Ted), James (Cheryl), and Jaylene Shelton (Jerry). Ralph likes to say, "she started it all" as they enjoyed their seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She instilled in her family the importance of being kind, grateful and faithful. Trudy was adored by everyone and showed her family how to love each other, while living each day sharing their gifts and talents. Memorial services will be at 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at Floral Hills Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 1 - 2 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to the Belton Church of Christ or KC Hospice. Momo Dear - we miss you so very much and feel so empty without you, but hopefully this will lessen, as we know you are where you have yearned to be. We will take good care of Poppie and love him in your physical absence. Now you can rest in eternity.
