Vernon Drewery Lucy III, 67, of Mechanicsville died Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009. Vernon was born on May 21, 1942, the only child of the late Vernon D. Lucy, Jr and Florence Washington Lucy of Woodford. Vernon was a 1964 graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and a member of the Corps of Cadets, K Company. In 1966, he married his sweetheart, Dale Crisp, and they became as one. Two weeks later he embarked on a one-year tour in Vietnam, where he served as a first lieutenant in the Army. Vernon joined a division of Westinghouse in 1964, which later became Infilco Degremont Inc., where he worked for 45 years. He became president of Infilco Degremont in 1998, and served in that capacity until his death. While at Infilco Degremont, Vernon served as a life member of the American Water Works Association, including chair of the Manufacturers and Associates Council and board member of the Research Foundation. He was a member of the Water Environment Foundation, including past president of the Water Environment Research Foundation. He also served on the board of the Clean Water Alliance, the Water & Wastewater Equipment Manufacturers Association, and the global charity Water for People. Vernon was a leader in his church family throughout the years, serving as deacon at Chamberlayne Baptist Church in Henrico and executive deacon at Cool Spring Baptist Church in Mechanicsville. He was currently an area director for Community Bible Study. He was an active servant of the Lord whenever and wherever he was called. Vernon was an avid sportsman, taking his friends and family fishing on his boat in the Chesapeake Bay, and hunting with friends at Woodford Hunt Club and on his family's propoerty in Caroline County. He was a lifelong Hokie, and enjoyed tailgating with friends and family at Virginia Tech football games. Vernon Lucy is survived by his wife and lifelong love of 44 years, Dale Crisp Lucy; his daughter, Dana Lucy Egan and her husband, Kevin of Mechanicsville; his son, Christoher Vernon Lucy and his wife, Nancy, of Richmond; and his five grandchildren; Caroline, Katharine and Reilly Egan and Thomas and Lauren Lucy; mother-in-love, Virginia Crisp of Ruther Glen of Ruther Glen; sisters-in-love and brothers-in-love, Dorothy and Dudley Busic of Ashland, Marie Farmer of Ruther Glen; Gene and Jackie Crisp of Glen Allen, and their families. He was also preceded in death by his father-in-love, John Ralph Crisp, and his brother-in-love, Emmett Farmer. In all of Vernon's endeavors and actions, he was an extraordinarily consistent man of unwavering faith. Whether he was at work, play, church, or home, he was the same man. In his life, he enjoyed many successes, accomplishments, and achievements, and gave all of the credit all of the time to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
