Brown, 92 of Hermitage Manor, retired Lt. Colonel,(Our Hero)passed away on Sunday, February 7, 2010 at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born on December 28 1917 in Centertown, Ky. He was retired from General Electric, helped open Medi Home Care in 1981. He was a USARMY Veteran after serving 20 plus years. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, He stayed active with veterans organizations, was a Post Commander, and a lifetime member of the American Legion and a member of VFW Post 696. Appointed to the Veterans Affairs committee and was a Kentucky Colonel. He served in the USArmy as Private First Class, Corporal and Platoon Sergeant. Served as company executive in the New Infantry Division. Was chosen to receive the British Military Cross for service in the battle of Oberwampach. He fought in five majors battles including D-Day Invasion of Normandy Beech, and the Battle of the Bulge. He served under General Patton in the 90th Infantry Division. He initiated the flag donation program to the schools, was involved with the Boy Scouts. Preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Block Brown in 1981 Son: David Brown; daughters, Rose Oshiro and Carleen Young great-grandson: Colby Johnson; Brother: Lavelton Brown; Sister: Elmyra Pate; and two stepsisters. Surviving are his Daughter, Sandra Payne and her husband, James(Pat) of Owensboro; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Brown; son-in-law, Nobu Oshiro. Grandchildren: 10 Great-Grandchildren: 20 Sister: Martha Helen Donahoo of Owensboro Services will be at 10:00am. Thursday, February 11, 2010 at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home .
