Benson L. Higgins, 93, passed peacefully on November 22, 2012 at Autumn Hills Nursing Home. He was born May 20, 1919 to Benson and Nellie (Conway) Higgins in East Liverpool, OH.
He went to school in East Liverpool. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Medical Aidman and for a short time after the war in the U.S. Air Force as a Medical Technician. He returned home and later retired as a Foreman from Rockwell International. He had been the baseball coach for the Windham Jets from 1953-61 and enjoyed bowling and loved to shoot pool. He was a member of the AMVETS of Newton Falls.
His loving memory will be carried on by his grandsons: Richard (Haejung) Higgins of Seoul, Korea, Michael Higgins of Southington and Timothy (Christa) Higgins of Leavittsburg and Jason B. Olson of FL; great-granddaughters: Sasha & Angela Higgins, Raychel Kline and Danielle (Gary) Hray-Yeater; great-grandsons: Ian Higgins, Dustin Beery and Landon Kline and daughter-in-law, Karen Higgins-Decker.
Benson was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma (Snider) Higgins, whom he married April 10, 1943; son, Robert Higgins; brothers: Charlie, Dallas, Paul, Harry, John; sisters: Irene, Virginia, Nellie, Marie, Leah, Margaret and Wilma.
Family and friends may gather at the McFarland & Son Funeral Home on Sunday, November 25, 2012 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday at the funeral home with full military honors. Inurnment will be at a later date in Windham Township Cemetery.
