Burton "Burt" James Kostol was born on August 4, 1919, in Bloomington, Minnesota. He was the son of Knute and Anna Marie (Nesbitt) Kostol. Burton was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed in his Catholic faith. He received his education in Bloomington and was a graduate of the Bloomington High School Class of 1938. Burt was employed in the office at Standard Oil Company and farmed with his father until entering the service in World War II. He trained for 5 months in New Caledonia and then served three months in combat in New Caledonia. He was hospitalized in the Fiji Islands with malaria, yellow jaundice and jungle rot. Burt was then shipped to the hospital in North Carolina for two weeks. After more training in North Carolina, he was shipped to North Africa. Burt received the good conduct medal and his 64th Infantry received two Presidential Citations for work in Guadalcanal. After his honorable discharge, he continued to farm with his father in Bloomington, Minnesota, while studying agri-business in Jordan, Minnesota. On April 7, 1951, Burton was united in marriage to Jenelle Domeier at St. Kevin's Catholic Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Their marriage was blessed with five children, Pat, Renee, Jeff, Karen and Denise. Bert and Jenelle made their home on a farm south of Glencoe until retiring to their home in Glencoe. They shared over 61 years of marriage. Burt was a farmer. After he retired, Burt was employed as a sales representative by the Form-A-Feed Company in Stewart, Minnesota. He was a member of Church of St. Pius X in Glencoe, where he served on the Knights of Columbus and was a cantor for 15 years. Burt was also a member of the Glencoe VFW Post #5102 and the president of the Farmer's Union. He spent over 20 years volunteering and also delivered Meals on Wheels. Burt was a great dad, who was an easy going and unselfish man. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, eating out, traveling, especially his fishing trips to Canada, and playing a little poker. Burt even had the pleasure of teaching his grandchildren to play poker. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family. Burton passed away on Friday, January 25, 2013, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care in Glencoe, Minnesota, at the age of 93 years, 5 months and 21 days. Blessed be his memory. Burton is survived by his: Wife, Jenelle Kostol of Glencoe, MN; Children, Pat Kostol of Coon Rapids, MN, Renee Engelmann and her husband, Ron, of Glencoe, MN, Jeffrey Kostol of Chaska, MN, Karen Kostol and her husband, John McFerrin, of Morgantown, WV; Son-In-Law, Rod Carlson of Coon Rapids, MN; Grandchildren, Kristine Fifield and her husband, Brian, of New London, MN, Michael Engelmann of Glencoe, MN, Colleen Walker and her husband, Jake, of Glencoe, MN, Julie Carlson of St. Cloud, MN, Cari Zepeda and her husband, Al, of Coon Rapids, MN, Katherine McFerrin of Morgantown, WV, Samuel McFerrin of Morgantown, WV; Great Grandchildren, Savannah Fifield, Mariah Fifield, Olivia Fifield, Connor Walker; Brothers-In-Law & Sisters-In-Law, Phyllis McCann of Freemont, CA, Jack Domeier and his wife, Molly, of Sacramento, CA, Grace Klingsporn and her husband, Richard, of Rochester, MN, Dennis Domeier and his wife, Audrey, of Fairfax, MN, Bonnie Kahnke and her husband, Joe, of Cannon City, CO, Carl Aul of Glencoe, MN, Robert Rehn of Chicago, IL; Nieces, Nephews, other relatives and many friends. Burton is preceded in death by his Parents, Knute and Anna Marie Kostol; Father-In-Law & Mother-In-Law, Frank and Mary Domeier; Cherished Daughter, Denise Carlson; Brothers-In-Law & Sisters-In-Law, Lillian Aul, Alice Rehn , Joe Domeier and his wife, Mary, David McCann, Earl Peterson.
