Connie L. Whipple, 68, of Oskaloosa, died Sunday, March 16, 2008, at the Mahaska Hospital in Oskaloosa. She was born March 22, 1939 at Oskaloosa, the daughter of Dean and Lela Perkins Werner. She graduated from the Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1957. On February 15, 1960, Connie was united in marriage to Larry J. Whipple at Oskaloosa, and later divorced. Connie worked in the bookkeeping department at Iowa Trust and Savings Bank (now First National Bank ? Midwest) in Oskaloosa for seven years. Later, she was a teacher's aide in the Oskaloosa Community Schools for 28 years, at Jefferson Elementary and then the new elementary school prior to her retirement in 2006. Connie enjoyed shopping and reading, and spending time with her family and friends, especially her neighbor children, Ethan and Emma Tabbert.
Her family includes her son, Scott Whipple of Oskaloosa; 4 nieces and 4 nephews: Diane (& Dale) Long, Sherry Werner, Pamela Richards, Sandra (& Jeff) Haines, Gregory (Butch) (& Deb) Braden, Jeffrey (& Roxanne) Braden, Jeffrey Werner, and Mark (& Shelley) Werner; two sisters in law: June Werner of Oskaloosa, and Patsy (& LuVerne) Braden of Oskaloosa; her mother in law: Rosella Whipple of Oskaloosa; and many caring and close friends.
Connie was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother: William "Bill" Werner.
Graveside services and burial for Connie Whipple will be held Tuesday, March 18, 2008, at 2 p.m. at the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa, with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating. At her request, there is no visitation, and the casket will remain closed. Friends and relatives may gather at the Bates Funeral Chapel on Tuesday by 1:40 p.m. to form a procession to the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to Mahaska Hospice for the future hospice house.
