Doris Nichols Gordon of Hillcrest Healthcare Center, Owensboro, KY went to be with her Lord on November 16, 2009 at the age of 91. She was born in Hancock County on January 1, 1918 to Ivory and Mabel Nichols. She grew up and went to school in Tell City, Indiana and worked for the Tell City Chair Factory. She then moved to Louisville, Kentucky where she worked for South Central Bell as an Operator Supervisor. She was also an active member of the Telephone Pioneers. After retirement from the telephone company, she moved to Owensboro, KY and was one of the first residents at the Roosevelt House where she lived for many years. During her retirement years, she worked part-time for the Papermill at Wesleyan Park Plaza. She was a faithful member of Lewis Lane Baptist Church and was very active in her Sunday school class and other church organizations. Preceding her in death was her husband, Dean M. Gordon, in 1971. Also preceding her in death were three sisters, Anna Meryl Nichols, Sue B. Jones and Frances Naomi Drake and two brothers, Yewell Ward Nichols and Chester Thomas Nichols. Survivors include two brothers, Joe Franklin Nichols of Florida and Charles Wayne Nichols of Kansas. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great, great nieces and nephews. Services are at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 20, 2009, at the Chapel of James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory in Owensboro. Visitation is from 9:00-10:30 a.m. on Friday at James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory. Burial will be at 2:45 p.m. (EST) in Resthaven Memorial Cemetery, 4400 Bardstown Road, Louisville, KY.
