Douglas R. Hernandez Sr., a veteran of the U.S. Army who proudly served his country in WWII, passed away peacefully at his home while surrounded by his family, on January 27, 2013 at the age of 96. His passing was joyfully greeted by the sound of Gabriel's trumpet.

He was the beloved husband for over 50 years to the late Mae Robino Hernandez. Loving father of Douglas Hernandez Jr. (Gayle) and Bradley Hernandez Sr. (Jessica). Brother of Hudson "Tea" Hernandez, Edna "Nonnie" O'Rourke, James "Buddy" Hernandez, Jane Puglia and Carroll Hernandez. Proud grandfather of Douglas Hernandez III (Vickie), John Hernandez (Dana), Roxanne Adams (Rickey), Steven Hernandez (Melissa), Jeffrey Hernandez, Erica Morales (Edward) and Bradley Hernandez Jr. He was preceded in death by his parents Blanche Rodriguez and Bradley Hernandez. He is survived and fondly remembered by his 15 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends and his caretakers Lorraine Hernandez and Wayne Jackson Jr. He will be forever remembered as a loving father, grandfather, brother and a friend to many, who loved his pancakes and sausages, but treasured his family above all else.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Friday, February 1st from 11:00AM – 1:00PM, followed by a Funeral Mass beginning at 1:00PM.

Burial will follow in St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery.
