Florence Hunt "Tootsie" Miller

Florence Hunt Miller, age 87, of Henderson, KY, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt, went to her reward in Heaven at 9:43 a.m., Sunday, January 27, 2013, at Methodist Hospital, Henderson, KY.

Florence spent her childhood on the family farm in Nortonville, KY where she especially loved walking across the fields to her grandparent's home to be spoiled rotten. As a young woman, she started working at Mead Johnson in Evansville, but left there to help build LSTs at the shipyard during WWII. She met the love of her life, Robert W. Miller and was married at the age of 19 on June 12, 1944. The family moved to Henderson in 1952 and she started working for the Henderson County School System in 1954 in food service, eventually retiring after about 30 years in 1984. As a Gold Star Mother, she was passionate about her volunteer work with Vietnam Vets and Compassionate Friends. Florence also spent time delivering Meals on Wheels. She just loved people and never met a stranger.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Carrie Hunt; son, Donald Robert Miller who died while serving in Vietnam, 3 brothers; Edwin, Spencer and Fred, Jr., and 4 sisters; Laura Elizabeth Hunt, Ruth Pendley, Virginia Birkhead and Betty Joselyn.

Survivors include:
Her loving Husband of 68 years: Robert W. Miller;

2 Daughters: Pamela (Charles) Ferrell;
Judy (Robert) Davis;

1 Sister : Jean Alice Vaughn;

4 Grandchildren: Susan Ferrell;
Robert Sean (Michelle) Bratcher;
Krista (Michael) Robertson;
Joni Bratcher;

6 Great Grandchildren: Michaela, Mackenzie, Brett, Marissa, Austin and Layna;

Many Nieces and Nephews

Relatives and friends are invited to Florence's Life Celebration from 2:00 until 8:00 on Wednesday, January 30, and again on Thursday starting at 11:00 at Tapp Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 on Thursday, January 31 at the funeral home with the Rev. Todd Linn, PhD officiating. Burial will follow at Fairmont Cemetery in Henderson, KY.
