Mr. Gary Preston Hildebran, 68, of Hildebran won his five-year battle with cancer and went to be with his familly and friends in heaven on Thursday, February 21, 2013, at Caldwell Hospice & Palliative Care's Robbins Center, Hudson.
Gary was born on May 10, 1944, the seventh child of Agnes Julia Hallman and Virgil Ernest Hildebran, Sr. He graduated from Hildebran High School in 1962 and Nashville Diesel College in 1963 and was drafted by the United States Army. He went from Fort Jackson to Vietnam after just six weeks where he was a radio operator in the First Air Calvary for seven months; later he was thrown from a jeep after gun fire and spent three months in Yokohama , Japan, before coming back to the states in 1967. His mentor and lifelong friend the late Paul Coffey asked him to come to Deville Furniture, where he worked until they closed; the remainder of his work life was spent at GDS/Republic Services where he retired in 2007. He was a faithful, loyal member of Hildebran United Methodist Church for 38 years, president of the David Hutto Sunday School Class for many of those years . He enjoyed breakfast, with his friends at the Snack Bar, especially gravy biscuits.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister Gaynelle Hildebran, brothers Virgil Ernest Hildebran, Jr., and Bobby Richard Hildebran, Sr.
