George LaRue McClure, age 59, of Robards, KY, went home to the Lord at 4:35 AM, Sunday, November 18, 2012, at Deaconess Hospital, Evansville, IN.
At the age of 9 months, his mother,Virginia, passed away. Following that event, he was raised by Genieve and James Swope. As a child, George was the first African American to attend Bend Gate School during the Jim Crowe days. He also began attending New Race Creek Baptist Church as a child where he eventually sang on the men's choir, served as a Trustee, and member of the Usher Board. He danced on American Band Stand and modeled for numerous agencies and events. At the age of 17, he moved in with Reverend Chester Hatchett and his wife, sister Hatchett. During his stay there, Rev. Hatchett became his mentor. George was a graduate of Henderson City High School where he received and held titles in track and football. Mr. McClure had the distinction of being the first African American Engineer for the local news station Channel 12. George had previously worked for Alcan in Robards for 15 years, Gibbs Die Casting for 12 years, and most recently at SRG Global Guardian Automotive for 10 years. He was an extremely hard worker. Even with all his life's accomplishments, he would still tell you his children and his baby girl Zaurie were his passion and after them were his dogs.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Eli and Virginia Turner McClure, his brothers Franklin and Carl McClure, his sisters Seguel Hawkins and Genieve Swope.
Surviving Mr. McClure are the mother of his children, Joyce McClure of Henderson, KY and his 3 daughters; Krystal McClure of Evansville and twin girls Andrea McClure of Evansville, IN and Erica McClure Henderson, KY. His sister, Mary Stewart, and brothers, Melvin, Marvin, and Eli McClure, and his granddaughter Zaurie Rutledge McClure also survive him.
Relatives and friends are invited to George's Life Celebration from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at New Race Creek Baptist Church, Henderson, KY. The funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday at the church with the Reverend Lynn Owens officiating.
Please see the family regarding expressions of sympathy.
