COLUMBIA Funeral service for Herman E. Reeves, Jr., 75, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 5, 2013, at Rosewood Baptist Church, with burial in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7:00 p.m. Monday, February 4, 2013, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.
Mr. Reeves died Thursday, January 31, 2013, at Providence Hospital after an extended illness. Born in North Charleston, he was a son of the late Herman Emmit Reeves Sr. and Mazie Elizabeth Smoak Reeves. Mr. Reeves was in the U.S. Army for 27 years serving his country during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. He was an avid golfer and skier and loved traveling and camping. Mr. Reeves greatest love was his family and spending time with them. He was a member of Rosewood Baptist Church, serving in many capacities over the years, being a Sunday School teacher and a Deacon. Mr. Reeves was also a Mason.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Doris Reeves; son, Randy Reeves of Columbia; stepdaughters, Nancy (Carl) Cassells of Elgin, Barbara (Scott) Diller of Columbia, Sheryl (Rick) Kindt of Charleston; grandchildren, Joshua Jenkins, Savannah Cosby, Allie Kindt, Samantha Reeves, Shannon Reeves, Addie Holby, Anna Diller, Mary Diller; sister, Sarah Garner and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three sisters, Alice Southern, Wilma Floyd and Margaret Steward.
