CENTRAL CITY - John Alfred Porter, Jr., 73, of Central City, died Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at Baptist Health in Madisonville. Mr. Porter was born September 12, 1939 in Monroe, Arkansas. He was a member of Gilland Ridge Indpendent Baptist Church in St. Charles, and was a U.S. Army veteran. He loved to be outside, working in his garden, and cooking. He was a member of Bremen Masonic Lodge. He was preceded in death by his brothers, George Portwood, Harvey Cloud, Wesley Porter, and Howard Porter; sisters Jodie Ely, Anna Morgan, and Jean King; father John Alfred Porter, Sr.; and mother Hannah Miller Porter.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Rager Porter; children John Robert (Bonnie) Porter, Randy Miles (Tammy) Porter, Mitzi Porter, Echo Littrell, Roy Weeks, and Amber (Corey) Hendrix; sisters Joe Chapman, Ethel (Lloyd) Robison, and Shirley (Robert) Jennings; brother James (Lynn) Nolan; and several grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral services will be Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 11:00AM at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City, with Rev. J.W. Haire officiating. Burial in Shavers Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 5-8PM at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to John Porter Jr. Memorial Fund, c/o Tucker Funeral Home, P.O.
