John R. West, age 92, a lifetime resident of Henderson County, KY, passed away on Friday, November 9, 2012 at his home here. Mr. West was under the care of St. Anthony's Hospice.
He was a very loving Christian man. He attended Weaverton and Grave Creek School as a child. At 14 years old he left school to work on the family farm and had enjoyed farming all his life. As a young man he married his wife Rosa Dell McCormick and raised three sons, one surviving, Darrell F. West of Henderson County, KY and two sons, Steve and Ray West, who preceded him in death.
He and some friends had a baseball team which they enjoyed playing in their leisure time. As a lifelong farmer he was very proud of the crops and livestock that he raised. Family would call him a perfectionist. He spent many days driving around in his truck to other friends and farmers property to see their crops and share stories of his own farm and knowledge of farming.
He was 1 of 11 children. Also preceding him in death were his parents Cohen and Ann McGroaty West, 4 sisters, Margaret Brown, Evelyn Westerman, Katherine Thompson and Verna Manion Wood, and 2 brothers, William R. West and Garland F. West.
Surviving Mr. West are two sisters, Magalene Melton and her husband Lee and Velma Hope and her husband Gilbert, two brothers, Clarence A. West and wife Virginia and James Coleman West and his wife Janie. 6 Grandchildren, 5 Great Grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to John's Life Celebration beginning at 9:00 A.M. Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at Benton Glunt where the Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Hollis Marshall. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Henderson, Kentucky.
