Kirsten Alice (Hershberger) Howard, 47, of South Bend, Indiana passed away at 8:50 p.m., Friday, February 1, 2013 in Hospice House. Kirsten was born on September 7, 1965 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania to Dalmain and Fay (Gindlesperger) Hershberger. She had lived in South Bend since 1990, coming from Chesterton, Indiana. Kirsten had been employed as an Optician at Lounge Optical in Chesterton, Indiana and Dr. Kitner and Dr. Shearer in Mishawaka, Indiana. On September 1, 1990, at St. Hedwig Catholic Church, she married John Howard, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Timothy J. Howard and Matthew A. Howard both of South Bend, Indiana; one sister, Daniell (Dana) Boom of Centennial, Colorado, niece Allison; and one brother, Rod (Leslie) Hershberger of Greeley, Colorado, nephew Christian and niece Madison. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., E.S.T. Friday February the 8th in St. Anthony de Padua Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call for one hour prior to the Mass on Friday in St. Anthony de Padua Church. Kirsten was a member of St. Anthony de Padua Parish. She enjoyed painting, drawing, cross stitch, and ceramics. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Anthony de Padua Church. Kaniewski Funeral Home, South Bend, Indiana is in charge of arrangements.
