Vieno Krekula was born and raised in Otto Township, rural New York Mills, Minnesota. Her parents were the late John William and Matilda (Hoyhtya) Krekula. She graduated from New York Mills High School. She served in the United States Navy during WWII. After the service she received her nursing education from Asbury Hospital-Hamline University School of Nursing. She was employed as Registered Nurse Supervisor at Asbury and Methodist Hospitals. After 15 years she optained her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from the University of Minnesota and was then employed as a public health nurse with Metropolitan Visiting Nurse Agency. She retired in 1970. Vie enjoyed traveling. Her trips included Germany, Finland and England as well as well as National Parks around the United States. She is preceded in death by her parents, John William and Matilda; brothers: William Edward, Maurice, Alva and Reuben; sisters, Elna Krekula and Sadie Julia Gray. Vieno is survived by her sisters: Ethel Wood and Ramona Gunderson; sister-in-law, Olga Krekula; brother, David (Theodora); numerous nieces and nephews; friend, Joyce Schowalter; other relatives and friends.
