Virginia Shirley Hawkes, 90, of Amelia, VA, passed away on Tuesday, February 26, 2013. She was preceded in death by her husband, John William Hawkes, Jr.; her daughter, Mary Louise McCauley; and her son, David Conrad Hawkes. She is survived by her son, John William Hawkes III (DeLinda); daughter, Joanne H. Green (Linwood); son-in-law, John Joseph McCauley; daughter-in-law, Paula Reid Hawkes; seven grandchildren, Bonnie M. Miller (Steve), John J. McCauley, Jr. (Amanda), Amy W. Spinella (John), John W. Hawkes IV, Adam Weatherington (Jaime), Daniel Waugh, and Courtney A. Hawkes; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Florence G. Jones; and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Hawkes was a retired employee of the Virginia Department of Social Services. She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend and very devoted to her family. The Family would like to give a special Thank You to the staff of Sunrise Assisted Living (Dogwood Cottage) for the loving care that she received during her stay. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM on Thursday, February 28, 2013 at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave. Richmond, VA 23231, where services will be held at 11 AM on Friday, March 1, 2013. Interment to follow at 2 PM in Pine Grove Cemetery, Amelia, VA.
